What A Mess

Oh boy, I think we’re in for it. And, we may be back to the issue of our neighbor’s fence again. Something’s wrong right beneath that damn fence post. The plumbers were able to get a camera down there and there’s a length of crushed, cracked pipe. The fence post is much higher than the pipe, though, so we don’t know for sure. Our sewer line and our neighbor’s sewer line meet head-on and drain down to a Town drain pipe which leads to the sewer line in the street. That “T” junction – where the pipe appears to be broken – is right beneath one of the fence posts. If the blockage is near the top of that chute, then we’re okay. If it’s deeper, then we’re in for another pile of misery, requiring larger equipment and more man-hours.

As it stands, we’re going to have to remove a part of that fence (with the owner’s permission) and dig into part of the owner’s back yard (again, with the owner’s permission). Our basement back-flow problem has been solved, by capping the pipe off completely until they can figure out what’s going on out there. I’m going back over to my in-laws tonight, after we’ve had a pow-wow with our co-owners and the construction manager who’s keeping tabs on all this. Meanwhile, the port-a-potty is still out back and will be for a few days yet.

We’re expecting a serious pile of rain starting this evening. That means further work will have to be delayed until Monday. Man, this is crazy.

Yow. I don’t know whether to scream or cry.

  1. Wow, Margy, I’m sorry you are going through all this. I hope they get to the bottom of this sooner rather than later. I really feel for you here. Hopefully it’ll all be a distant memory soon.

  2. I would go for the screaming. Crying never gets you anywhere. Horrible and getting even worse. Hopefully they’ll find the problem at the fence and then you can have the fencing dude’s insurance cover all the costs including a daily expense to take care of having to live elsewhere. Sheesh.

    What a crappy situation.

(You knew I had to get at least one poop joke in here somewhere, right?)
